Store & Forward Add-On for OPC Router - License type: Subscription license
This add-on enables your OPC Router to prevent data loss in the event of a target system failure. OPC Router stores all data until the connection between OPC Router and the target system is restored. OPC Router then gradually forwards the data to the target system. More

OPC Router is a modular system that consists of the Basic module, plug-in modules and add-on modules. Your choice of plug-in modules depends on where from and where to you need to transfer data. Add-on modules extend OPC Router's capabilities. A single OPC Router PC installation requires the Basic module and at least one plug-in module. You also need to purchase the Year 1 Support & Maintenance package for the first year. It will automatically be added to your basket. During the first year or when the package has expired, you can purchase Support & Maintenance for subsequent years.
Store & Forward Add-On
The Store & Forward Add-On prevents loss of your data if the data recipient (i.e. a database server, an MQTT broker, etc.) becomes, for any reason, unavailable, or if the database is failing to process requests fast enough.
If any of these situations occurs, OPC Router stores all the data that it was supposed to send to the target system. When the connection between OPC Router and the target system has been re-established, OPC Router gradually transfers all the stored data to the target system.
Using Store & Forward for Big Data Analysis in the Cloud
An example of the use of the Store & Forward Add-On would be Big Data analysis in the cloud, where statistical production data is stored so that it can be analysed.
If OPC Router is storing statistical production data in the cloud and the connection between OPC Router and the cloud has failed for any reason, using the Store & Forward Add-On OPC Router records and temporarily saves all the data that was going to be sent to the cloud, preventing data loss.
When the connection has been re-established, OPC Router retrieves the locally stored data and forwards it to the cloud.
As statistical production data does not have to be analysed in the cloud immediately, the fact that the data is transferred with a delay is irrelevant here. What matters is that this solution prevents the loss of this data.
Using Store & Forward for SAP and Databases
There are several reasons why databases or SAP may become unavailable – for example planned as well as unplanned downtime, maintenance, upgrade and backup.
The Store & Forward Add-On is the perfect solution for preventing data loss if your SAP system or database becomes unavailable. With this add-on, OPC Router locally stores all the data that it was supposed to send to your SAP or database. When the connection has been re-established, OPC Router gradually transfers all the stored data to your SAP or database.
System requirements
Computer performance
OPC Router is a server application and needs to run on suitably equipped hardware. We recommend using at least the following components:
- Multi-core processor,
- at least 4 GB RAM,
- hard disk space (with RAID 5 technology).
Operating system
We recommend using Microsoft Windows Server operating systems (see below). Client operating systems (64-bit) can also be used for testing purposes.
- Windows Server 2008 x64
- Windows Server 2008 R2 x64
- Windows Server 2012 x64
- Windows Server 2012 R2 x64
- Windows Server 2016 x64
- Windows Server 2019 x64
- Windows 7 x64
- Windows 8 x64
- Windows 8.1 x64
- Windows 10 x64
- Windows 10 IoT x64
Available OPC servers
OPC servers in OPC Router are used to connect control systems and other devices over OPC UA, OPC DA 4.0, or OPC XML.
To connect an OPC server, you must purchase a Module OPC license.
Available database servers
Database servers must be installed separately and are not part of the OPC Router installation. The OPC Router supports the following database systems:
- MS SQL
- Oracle
- MySQL
- MS Access
- XMLdatabases accessible by ODBC
Plug-ins for connecting database systems are not part of the Basic license, but you need to purchase the appropriate plug-in separately.
SAP-Plug in
The SAP Plug-in supports SAP systems version 4.0b and higher. For functionality, you need to have the so-called
SAP Log-on pad installed on the server where the OPC Router is running.
The SAP Plug-in is licensed and is not part of the Basic license.
New features in the OPC Router 5.1 data hub
The new version of OPC Router 5 brings some big changes. The biggest change is the user interface, which brings the user more comfort when working with the program and the ability to work in Linux, macOS, etc. There are also new options for creating user accounts, improvements in application performance optimization and many other improvements.
