The ATLAS from the company PROCENTEC is a powerful tool for diagnostics and monitoring of PROFINET, Ethernet and Ethernet/IP networks. It automatically scans the network for connected devices, detects network topology and collects device data for analysis.

This simple but very user-friendly indicator graphically informs you about the health of your network, using the standard three lights.

There are three possible ways you can access these traffic lights.

If you need only a quick overview, you can check the traffic lights on the ATLAS itself.

You can also access the traffic lights and other information from the comfort of your office – via the ATLAS's integrated web server.

As the ATLAS supports OPC UA, it also enables you to collect continuous monitoring data. As regards transfer of this data to a higher communications platform, we have great experience with the KEPServerEX platform.

ATLAS Interface Now in Czech – Easier to Use

Thanks to close cooperation with the company PROCENTEC, we have been able to translate the ATLAS's user interface into Czech. Now being more intuitive, it is much easier to use.

Network Quality – Q-Factor

The ATLAS offers valuable information about the quality of your network. Obtaining this information used to be difficult. ATLAS's Q-Factor functionality (Quality Factor) provides exactly this data by using a weighted algorithm which is built up from all the connected devices on the network. The Q-Factor can be shown in different ways – by displaying a value from 0 to 5,000 (according to the automotive standard) or a percentage from 0% to 100% as a relative display of the quality of the network. A simpler overview is also available – via the traffic lights feature, which shows the health of your network using the three standard colours.

Q-Factor can be displayed not only for the network but also for each individual device on the network.

Q-Factor as well as the traffic lights can also be read via OPC UA.

Network Topology

Correct topology and diagnostics always rest on managed switches. If your network does not contain managed switches, you cannot obtain its topology. Unmanaged switches do not support the SNMP and LLDP protocols and thus do not allow you to read such information as topology, utilisation of individual ports and the number of discarded input and output packets on the switch.

In most cases, network topology is a great unknown. We sometimes find that although a customer has documentation for their network, the actual topology is different.

Having access to the topology of your network is invaluable when identifying the causes of unplanned downtime. It can often significantly decrease the time necessary for troubleshooting, minimising unplanned downtime.

It should also be noted that the topology that the ATLAS detects is live topology. This means that you can instantly see which device has a problem and, for example, which device has been disconnected.

Device List

In the Device List, you will find a lot of important information for diagnostics. The ATLAS requests this data by means of the SNMP protocol. The list includes:

  • IP address
  • MAC address
  • Up time
  • Response time (cycle)
  • Minimum and maximum response time
  • Last incoming and outgoing load
  • Minimum and maximum incoming and outgoing load
  • Software version
  • Serial number, order ID, hardware version and other information

With a single mouse click, the Device List, along with information about each individual device, can be saved to a CSV file.

Passive Diagnostics Functionality

It was not until recently that the ATLAS incorporated the passive diagnostics functionality (after the update of the firmware to version V1.1.77). To perform passive diagnostics, you also need to have one of these two supported TAP adapters:

If you purchase only the ATLAS module (without the EtherTAP PROFINET licence), you can analyse only Ethernet. If you want to carry out passive PROFINET / Ethernet/IP analysis, you have to purchase the EtherTAP PROFINET licence or a full set for analysing PROFINET, Ethernet/IP and Ethernet networks – the ATLAS active and passive diagnostics of PROFINET, Ethernet/IP and Ethernet.

Reports

The ATLAS enables you to generate user-friendly reports. They can be customised so that they contain only the information that you find interesting, for example:

  • ATLAS Info
  • Q-Factor
  • Device list
  • Ignored devices
  • Traffic lights
  • Differences in firmware
  • EtherTAP analysis (passive diagnostics)

OPC UA

The ATLAS supports data collection via OPC UA, which is a very elegant solution. If you have one or more ATLASes installed on your shop floor, you can collect data from it/them and transfer it to communications platforms or OPC servers and then visualise it in higher systems. In one place, you will see statuses of individual networks and at first sight you will find out if your networks are in good health or not.

You can collect this data:

  • Q-Factor of the whole network
  • Traffic lights
  • Status

For data collection, we often use and can recommend the KEPServerEX communications platform.

Email notifications

If you want to be notified of failing health of your network, you can set alerts – either for the entire network or for individual devices. Alerts notify you of these status changes:

  • Traffic lights changes
  • Slow to respond devices
  • Device lost
  • Devices with InErrors
  • Devices with InDiscards
  • Devices with lost ping packets

Product Variations

The ATLAS is available in 4 different variations:

Active diagnostics of PROFINET, Ethernet and Ethernet/IP

This variation is suitable for those who want to have access to basic information about devices and cabling. Using an Ethernet cable, you connect the ATLAS to any free port in the network. The ATLAS then automatically and actively requests data from all available network devices. This data includes IP address, MAC address, station name, network topology, ports' status, number of station lost occurrences captured, number of corrupted packets captured, firmware version, ports' data traffic, order ID, serial number, time since last restart, etc.

One of the main advantages of the ATLAS is its capability to simultaneously display all detected PROFINET and Ethernet devices, including network topology.

Active diagnostics of PROFINET, Ethernet and Ethernet/IP + passive diagnostics of PROFINET and Ethernet

Apart from active diagnostics, you will be able to perform passive diagnostics. You will get the ATLAS and a TAP adapter. By connecting the TAP adapter to the network (between the PLC and the rest of the network), you will be able to monitor communication in the communication cable, thus obtaining such information as stations' update rates, port utilisation, telegram jitter, PROFINET alarms, discarded packets, etc. Put differently, you will be able to perform telegram analysis.

This product variation is ideal for comprehensive continuous PROFINET and Ethernet monitoring. You will gain deep insight into the health of your network devices and cabling. Every network problem will be detected in time, so you will be able to eliminate unplanned downtime.

  • EtherTAP – PROFINET Message Analysis – Message analysis gives you information that is very important to determining your network's condition. With this licence, you will have access to continuous diagnostics of your network. On a simple dashboard, the ATLAS displays the number of PROFINET alarms, the number of discarded packets, minimum and maximum jitter and minimum and maximum device cycle time.
